Report: Trent Williams will not report to the 49ers until his contract has been adjusted

While Brandon Aiyuk's hold-in garnered most of the excitement outside the building surrounding the 49ers, left tackle Trent Williams' hold-in is even more serious.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that Williams will not return to the team until his contract is adjusted.

This means the 49ers will be without him for their Week 1 game against the Jets in two weeks.

Williams is scheduled to earn $20.05 million this year, $22.5 million in 2025 and $32.1 million in 2026. None of the payments are guaranteed.

The 49ers have not seen Williams since the end of the 2023 season because he skipped the offseason program, including mandatory minicamp, as well as all of training camp and the preseason. He is piling up daily fines that the team cannot waive under the rule.

Coach Kyle Shanahan said five days ago he hoped a deal was imminent.

The 49ers have drafted Jaylon Moore as their replacement at left tackle. Moore has started seven times in three seasons.

Williams has been named All-Pro the past three seasons and has made 11 consecutive Pro Bowl appearances, not counting 2019, when he missed the season due to a dispute with Washington.
