The Los Angeles Dodgers have spent most of the year at the top of the National League West and are all but assured of their twelfth consecutive postseason appearance.
But now, with the final month of the 2024 season fast approaching, the Dodgers' lead in the division must have shrunk significantly at the hands of both the Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres.
The Dodgers, Diamondbacks and Padres hold three of the eight best records in all of baseball. Los Angeles has the most wins with 78 and is one game ahead of the New York Yankees in the MLB standings.
Diamondbacks
After losing to the Tampa Bay Rays, the Diamondbacks were able to turn their away tour around with victories over the Miami Marlins and the Boston Red Sox.
Despite the Dodgers' current winning streak, Arizona was three games behind them in the NL West standings entering Monday's off day.
Next week, the Diamondbacks will host the New York Mets and then the Dodgers at Chase Field for a decisive series that ends on September 2nd.
Dodgers
The Dodgers also have Monday off before beginning a series against the Baltimore Orioles to close out their home series. Baltimore, 76-56, just tied a series with the Houston Astros.
After the interleague duel, the Dodgers will be looking to improve on their 4-5 record against the Diamondbacks this season, including winning two of three games during their last visit to Chase Field.
Manager Dave Roberts recently said he and the Dodgers are conscious of their NL West standings, as the division suddenly features three teams competing against each other.
Fathers
San Diego spent last week at home and needed a walk-off win on Sunday to get above .500 at this stage. Now the Padres begin a road trip that consists of series against the St. Louis Cardinals and Rays.
