The forecast for tonight:
HOUSTON – Check out our current radar below:
Tonight temperatures will drop to above 24 degrees, with a 20% chance of rain showers and thunderstorms.
Forecast for Saturday:
There's a chance of showers and drizzle throughout the day. Not the best day for the pool, but not a bad day either! There's a 30-40% chance of rain, which means if rain is coming, you'll just have to wait until it passes.
If you're having a pool party or barbecue over Labor Day weekend, you don't have to cancel, but I would keep an eye on the radar and go inside for 30 minutes if you hear thunder.
Some coastal areas may experience heavy rainfall, which may result in flash flooding. The rainfall is rather light, but it is still there!
On the trail of the tropics:
The National Hurricane Center is currently monitoring the low pressure system in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico for tropical development, but don't sound the alarm. It's the same low pressure system we've been monitoring all week that's brought us showers and storms.
The low pressure system will continue to meander offshore as it drifts toward Louisiana. If it stays over the warm waters of the Gulf, there is a chance it will develop, but the probability is slim. A 10% chance in the next two days and only a 20% chance in the next seven days.
There are also some waves in the Atlantic, with a 40% chance of one over the next seven days. Behind that is another tropical wave that may develop first, with a 20% chance of that over the weekend.
10-day forecast:
We have a daily chance of showers and thunderstorms in the 10-day forecast. These won't be total downpours, but rather showers and thunderstorms that will be scattered here and there. That means you shouldn't cancel your Labor Day weekend outdoor plans, but keep in mind that a few thunderstorms could move through.
If you're looking for cooler weather, we expect a gradual cooldown in September. Our average high temperature drops to 88° by the end of the month. Our average low temperature drops to 67° – thank goodness!
Although we expect our temperatures to drop seasonally, the Climate Prediction Center expects temperatures to remain above average throughout the month across most of the U.S. As a reminder, our last 100-degree day was September 27, following Hurricane Rita.
