With three wins from their opening three games, Barcelona will hope to continue their bright start to the new La Liga season when they host Real Valladolid on Saturday.

After a delayed start to his Barcelona career, new signing Dani Olmo made a perfect debut in midweek, coming off the bench to score the last-minute winner for the Blaugrana in their 2-1 away victory at Rayo Vallecano. The result puts them top of La Liga, four points clear of rivals Real Madrid.

Barça next face Real Valladolid, who have performed well since being promoted. Alongside a win against Espanyol and a draw against Leganes, they suffered a 3-0 defeat to defending champions Real Madrid. However, that result was not the whole story, with Paolo Pezzolano's side playing as well as they could for much of the game, suggesting Barcelona may not be on their side today.

Barcelona will face Real Valladolid at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on Saturday, August 31. Kick-off is scheduled 17:00 CEST local time, which makes it a 11am ET and 8am PT Start in the USA; a 4 p.m. Start in Great Britain and a 1am AEST Kick-off in Australia is on Sunday.

For Hansi Flick, it was a promising start to his term as head coach of FC Barcelona: after three wins in the first three games, the Catalan record champions are at the top of La Liga.

How to watch La Liga from anywhere with a VPN

If you can't watch La Liga matches in person, you may need another way to watch the games – this is where using a VPN can help. A VPN is also the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds on match day by encrypting your traffic. Plus, it's a great idea if you're travelling and connected to a Wi-Fi network and want to add an extra layer of privacy to your devices and logins.

A VPN lets you virtually change your location on your phone, tablet, or laptop to gain access to the game. Most VPNs, like our Editors' Choice ExpressVPN, make this really easy.

Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in all countries where VPNs are legal, including the US, UK and Canada, as long as you have a valid subscription to the service you're streaming. You should make sure your VPN is set up correctly to avoid leaks: even when VPNs are legal, the streaming service may block the account of anyone it believes is bypassing correctly applied blocking restrictions.

ExpressVPN is our current top VPN pick for people looking for a reliable and secure VPN, and it works on a wide range of devices. It normally costs $13 per month, but if you take out an annual subscription for $100, you get three months free and save 49%. That works out to $6.67 per month with the code SPECIAL OFFERwhich should be applied automatically.

Note that ExpressVPN offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Quick tips for streaming La Liga with a VPN

  • With four variables at play – your ISP, browser, video streaming provider, and VPN – your experience and success streaming La Liga matches may vary.
  • If your desired location does not appear as a default option for ExpressVPN, try using the “Search by city or country” option.
  • If you're having trouble getting the game after turning on your VPN and setting it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try to quickly resolve the issue. First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered to the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs – like Roku – don't have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you'll need to install the VPN on your router or whatever mobile hotspot you're using (such as your phone) so that every device on its Wi-Fi network now shows up in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend offer helpful instructions on their main page to quickly install the VPN on your router. In some cases, with smart TV services, after installing a cable network's sports app, you'll be asked to confirm a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. Again, having a VPN on your router is helpful here, as it will show both devices in the correct location.
  • Remember that browsers can often reveal a location even when using a VPN, so make sure you use a browser that puts privacy first to log into your services. We usually recommend Brave.
