US Open star from billionaire family explains why she takes the train to the tournament | Tennis | Sport

Jessica Pegula has explained why she prefers to take the train to the US Open rather than buy a “nice car”.

The world number 6 shared a video of herself boarding the subway to Flushing Meadows and revealed that she often uses public transport.

Fans really enjoyed Pegula’s realistic journey – especially because she could travel in any luxury vehicle of her choosing.

Pegula's father Terry has not only amassed millions in prize money over the course of her career, he also has a fortune of £5.1 billion ($6.8 billion), according to Forbes, and is the owner of two sports teams.

But the six-time title winner recently decided to drive to the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center alone and shared her trip in an Instagram video. “Why am I taking the subway? I don't like driving and I like trains,” Pegula explained.

“I always try to take the train. In fact, when I was a junior, I sometimes took the train to the tennis court.” Pegula also uses public transport to get to other events.

She added: “I like to take the train to a lot of baseball games. I went to a Yankees game recently.” The American has been driven to the US Open site in the past, but admitted it made her feel sick.

“My agent makes fun of me because I don't want to take a nice car,” Pegula continued. “We actually drove to Flushing [by car] One time it took an hour and a half in the car and I wanted to throw up. I wanted to jump out of the car and run to the construction site. On the way back we took the subway.”

Fans flocked to the comments to praise Pegula for her authenticity. “Jpeg the people's people,” one wrote. Another added: “I love this – that's why people love Jess! Get her! Thanks for the behind the scenes peek!”
