When CM Punk returned to WWE at Survivor Series 2023 after his release from AEW, rumors swirled about stars behind the scenes not being thrilled with Punk's reappearance. One of those stars was Kevin Owens, who had previous issues with Punk dating back to when the two were in ROH. Ahead of his big Undisputed WWE Championship match against Cody Rhodes at Bash in Berlin on Saturday, Owens was again asked by the Daily Mail about his relationship with the “Straight Edge Superstar.” While Owens usually calls a spade a spade, he didn't want to talk too much about their lack of a relationship.

“We never talk,” Owens told the outlet. “We have no reason to talk. We're not friends. We're not, we don't, you know, we're just not, I don't know. We have no reason to talk. If we work together, we'll talk, but we just don't.”
One of Punk's first televised backstage interactions after returning to Survivor Series was with Owens. Punk asked about WWE Raw General Manager Nick Aldis's locker room, to which Owens just laughed in Punk's face and was visibly unhappy to see him. Owens had previously said in an interview shortly after Punk's return that the two “are not the type for each other.” Owens said they are obligated to greet each other when they are near each other, but that is about all their relationship is, and he said “that's totally fine.” Punk and Owens will both compete at Bash in Berlin on Saturday. Owens will attempt to dethrone Rhodes, while Punk will face his arch-nemesis Drew McIntyre in a Strap Match.
