SEOUL: The supreme leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) oversaw a performance test of a drone on Saturday organized by the Drone Institute of the Academy of Defense Sciences, the DPRK's official Korean News Agency (KCNA) reported on Monday.

Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, has received first-hand information about the drones currently being developed and designed to attack enemy forces on land and at sea, the report said.

During the test, drones of various types precisely identified and destroyed the intended targets after following various preset flight routes, it said.

The North Korean president noted that developing different types of drones and improving their combat capabilities play an important role in war preparations. He stressed the need to advance the development and production of drones and urged more intensive testing of their combat capabilities and rapid equipping of military units with them, the report said.
