DARLINGTON, SC (WPDE) — The 75th annual Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway is just around the corner and in honor of the historic race, Darlington Raceway is paying tribute to one of NASCAR’s greatest drivers, Cale Yarborough.
A press conference honoring the late NASCAR Hall of Famer was held at Darlington Raceway on Tuesday.
Over the course of his career, the Timmonsville native has achieved an impressive 83 victories, including five wins at the Too Tough to Tame track in the Cook Out Southern 500.

At Tuesday's event, Yarborough's family was joined by television analyst Jeff Hammond, who happened to be part of Yarborough's championship-winning pit crew during the 1978 season.
ABC15 spoke to Yarborough's daughter about her father's legacy and the recognition for the same song he once made famous.
“This was his home track. This was his home. This is where he started and I'm sure he's looking at us today, looking down on us and thinking, wow, you guys are really doing a great job honoring me and we're very proud,” Julie Yarborough said.
Cale Yarborough passed away last December at the age of 84.
Cale's historic 1978 Southern 500 car will be on display at the Darlington Raceway Stock Car Museum ahead of this weekend's race.
