“The Bride” by Maggie Gyllenhaal is a “wildly romantic” musical

There are countless movies based on Frankenstein's monster, and one centered around his bride is coming out soon. Directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, Warner Bros has been pretty secretive about what kind of movie it will be. The bride will be, but according to actor (and Gyllenhaal's husband) Peter Sarsgaard, it looks like the two monsters will star in a musical.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Sarsgaard was asked about his experience filming the movie. He was pretty positive about his time there, calling it, in full wife mode, “the best script I've ever read. It was really satisfying on so many levels.” What ranks it so highly? In his words, it's a “big movie” for adults and teens, a crowd-pleaser that's “violent at times and wildly romantic.” He further described it as “punk” and said it will feature “big numbers, dance numbers and stuff.” […] I'm so happy with how Warner Bros. supported Maggie on the film.”

Unlike most previous versions of the Frankenstein Story, The bride is set in 1930s Chicago, with Jessie Buckley taking on the title role and Christian Bale playing the monster. Without giving too much away, Sarsgaard raved about what the top duo brought to the production. The former newsie, he said, is a “phenomenal actor with so much dedication.” […] He can't help but be there. It's not a choice, [or] an impertinence. That's just the way he is.” He praised Buckley, on the other hand, for being “the most abstract, random, free-flowing, spontaneous actress you could ever work with.” The bride is so ambitious because [it has] one of the best screenplays.”

A big-budget musical Frankenstein The film sounds like another interesting, strange twist that classic monsters have received in recent years. We hope that, unlike Jokers 2, Warner Bros. decides to fully commercialize The bride as a musical before its release on September 26, 2025.
